Meet the artists
Romano Zaugg is a Basel based artist with a performance focus on food, cooking and collectivity. Their practice is rooted in the belief that food holds the power to bring people together and that we are able to share knowledge when creating in a group. Recurring inspirations and motifs are their cultural roots in Graubünden as well as travels to the north of Europe. An early interest (and hyperfixation) on geographical maps has been a key reason in the planning of the Heymadland exhibition.
Soraya Blumer is a Basel based art mediator, born and raised in Ticino, the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. Her Practice is wide-ranging and jumps from Installation, to curation, from drawing to performing to writing. she is keen to say that she chooses her medium based on what she wants to express but probably it’s just undiagnosed HDHD. This time it is screenshots; despite having a notoriously poor sense for navigation and maps, she discovered her fascination for place names around two years ago and keeps screenshooting since. After hours of cruising through swisstopo quite a lot of poetic swiss culture arised and she decided to dedicate an Instagram account to share her silly “Heimatland” with the world, and with Romano, who got hooked and now screenshoots more than her.

Zu den Künstler*innen
Romano Zaugg lebt und arbeitet in Basel. Romanos performativer Fokus liegt auf Essen, Kochen und Gemeinschaft. Romanos Arbeit basiert auf der Überzeugung, dass Essen die Kraft hat, Menschen zusammenzubringen, und dass wir in der Lage sind, Wissen zu teilen, wenn wir in einer Gruppe kreativ sind. Wiederkehrende Inspirationen und Motive sind Romanos kulturellen Wurzeln in Graubünden sowie Reisen in den Norden Europas. Ein frühes Interesse (und Hyperfixierung) an geografischen Karten war ein wichtiger Grund für die Planung der Ausstellung Heymadland.
Soraya Blumer ist Kunstvermittlerin in Basel, geboren und aufgewachsen im italienischsprachigen Tessin. Ihre Praxis ist breit gefächert und bewegt sich zwischen Installation, Kuration, Zeichnung, Performance und Schreiben. Sie würde vermutlich sagen, dass sie ihr Medium wählt anhand von dem was Sie ausdrucken möchte – wobei es wahrscheinlich einfach undiagnostiziertes ADHS ist. Im Moment ist das Medium Screenshots. Trotz ihres notorisch schlechten Orientierungssinns und ihrer Abneigung gegen Karten entdeckte sie vor etwa zwei Jahren ihre Faszination für Ortsnamen – und sammelt seither Screenshots. Nach unzähligen Stunden des Stöberns auf Swisstopo entstand eine überraschende Menge and Material aus poetischer Schweizer Kultur zum Vorschein. Daraus entstand die Idee, einen Instagram-Account zu eröffnen, um ihr lustiges «Heimatland» mit der Welt zu teilen – und mit Romano, der inzwischen sogar mehr Screenshots macht als sie selbst.
