Art should be able to be shown. It should be accessible to as many people as possible, inspire them, make them think and open up new perspectives. At times when exhibitions are not possible, the artworks remain in their storage spaces in the studios, not visible to the public. This is a condition that many artists have had to endure over the past two years. The artworks in their storage spaces in the studios are in a state of transit (transit in the classical sense of transit), as they will either soon go to an exhibition, be retrieved by the artists and perhaps reworked, or be bought directly from the studio. Among the works stored in the studios, however, there are also many that the public never gets to see, for example because they are not selected for an exhibition or are considered unfinished by the artists.
The exhibition «Malerei im Transit» aims to make this state of transit visible to the public. In order for the public to get a feeling for the artists and their production conditions, they should also see how artworks are stored and are in a permanent state of transit. In addition, they will also get to see paintings that would perhaps never be exhibited in this state. The racks, which are present in the exhibition space, illustrate this state and are also objects on their own. One could also speak of transit beings. The mobility of the racks further illustrates this aspect. Next to the racks, large photo posters hang on the walls, showing the pictures in a new context, such as in nature or in the city, but also in interior spaces. These are also transit spaces. Is the painting on its way to the next exhibition, to a buyer's house, or do the artists simply want to see it in a new context and then continue painting on it?
