Während der Art Woche in Basel gibt es im KASKO gleich einiges auf die Augen, Ohren und in den Magen.  

Tagsüber läuft die Videoausstellung day digestion kuratiert von Pavel Kovalenko, welche am Montag, 15.6.26, um 19 Uhr mit Bar eröffnet.  

Jeweils am Dienstag, Donnerstag und Samstag ist ab 19 Uhr dann Einlass für das KASKO 5π Dinner-Event und die Bar, sowie die Dachterrasse geöffnet.

During the day, the video exhibition day digestion, curated by Pavel Kovalenko, will be on view, with the opening reception taking place on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 7 p.m.  

Admission for the KASKO 5π dinner with performance begins at 7 p.m. every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

day digestion untersucht und verarbeitet den Alltag über Rhythmus, Repetition und dokumentarisches Vorgehen in unterschiedlichen Videoformaten. 

Soraya Oriana Blumer : Public Viewing (2026) 

Eine orts- und kontextspezifische Installation, die die Welt der grossen Kunstmessen virtuell mit der Aussenwelt verbindet. Das Werk fungiert als Portal, das geführte Rundgänge aus den Messehallen direkt in den Ausstellungsraum KASKO überträgt, für diejenigen, die keinen direkten Zugang zur Messe haben.

Anstelle einer neutralen Dokumentation entsteht über das Überreichen einer Live Kamera eine sich entwickelnde, subjektive Erkundung des Kunstbetriebs. Es sind abstrakten Close-ups, angeschnittenen Werke und der hektische Rhytmus der Panik zu erwarten: eine Ästhetik, die den Spagat widerspiegelt, zwischen dem Wunsch, das Geschehen zu teilen und die rechtlichen Hürden, die der Übertragung im Weg stehen.

Das Werk thematisiert Zugang, Handlungsmacht und die verschwommenen Verbindungen zwischen kommerziellen und unkommerziellen Kunstveranstaltungen.

Raphael ReicherT: reading the news (2025/26)  
Eine Videoarbeit, in der der Künstler sich selbst über ein Jahr hinweg dabei filmt, wie er lokale digitale Nachrichten liest. Das Werk rückt den unaufhaltsamen Informationsfluss, die Spannung zwischen gesellschaftlicher Verantwortung und emotionaler Erschöpfung sowie den Verlust von Aufmerksamkeit und Aufnahmefähigkeit in den Vordergrund. 

Im Rahmen der Ausstellung steht das Werk im Dialog mit der überwältigenden Dichte der Art Basel Woche und thematisiert die Informationsüberflutung als einen gemeinsamen Zustand, der sowohl den Medienkonsum als auch das Betrachten von Kunst prägt.

Christoph Renfer : ALL TAG_1948_8 (2020–2025) 
Eine Videoinstallation, die 1948 aufeinanderfolgende Tage auf acht parallelen Bildschirmen dokumentiert. Das Werk konstruiert eine fortwährende Gegenwart, in der alltägliche Momente zu ästhetischem Material werden, die Zeit zyklisch, gedehnt und fragmentiert erscheint und Bedeutung eher durch Gegenüberstellung als durch Erzählung entsteht. 

Im Rahmen von day digestion stellt Renfers Arbeit den Ausnahmecharakter der Kunstmesse der Beständigkeit des Alltags gegenüber und betont dabei die Dauer gegenüber dem Spektakel.

Pavel Kovalenko (1980, Moskau; lebt in Riehen) ist Partner/Kurator bei see you next tuesday, einer Galerie für zeitgenössische feministische Kunst in Basel, CH. Er ist sowohl im unabhängigen als auch im institutionellen Bereich tätig, wobei sein Schwerpunkt auf aufstrebenden Kunstpraktiken liegt.

day digestion explores and reinterprets everyday life through rhythm, repetition, and documentary approaches in various video formats.

Soraya Oriana Blumer:  Public Viewing (2026) 

A site- and context-specific installation that virtually connects the realm of major art fairs with the outside world. The work functions as a portal that streams guided tours from the fair halls directly into KASKO exhibition space, for those who cannot access the fair itself.

Instead of neutral documentation, the use of a passed-on, live camera creates an evolving, subjective exploration of the art world. Expected abstract close-ups, cropped artworks, and the frantic rhythm of panic: an aesthetic that reflects the tension between the desire to share the happening and the legal hurdles impeaching the direct transmission.

The work addresses access, agency, and the blurred connection between commercial and non-commercial art events.

Raphael Reichert : reading the news (2025/26)  
A video work in which the artist films himself over the course of a year as he reads local digital news. The work highlights the relentless flow of information, the tension between social responsibility and emotional exhaustion, and the loss of attention and receptivity. Within the context of the exhibition, the work engages in a dialogue with the overwhelming intensity of Art Basel week and addresses information overload as a shared condition that shapes both media consumption and the experience of viewing art.

Christoph Renfer : ALL TAG_1948_8 (2020–2025) 
A video installation that documents 1948 consecutive days across eight parallel screens. The work constructs an ongoing present in which everyday moments become aesthetic material, time appears cyclical, stretched, and fragmented, and meaning emerges through juxtaposition rather than narrative. Within the framework of day digestion, Renfer’s work contrasts the exceptional nature of the art fair with the constancy of everyday life, thereby emphasizing duration over spectacle.

Pavel Kovalenko (b. 1980, Moscow; lives in Riehen) is partner/curator at see you next tuesday, a gallery for contemporary feminist art in Basel, Switzerland. He works in both the independent and institutional sectors, with a focus on emerging art practices.
